Greetings! Pastors, Ministers of Music and Friends, My name is Donna Storrs. I am writing to you to share a dream that God has placed on my heart. In late 2002, I was ministering in a Bethlehem church as the volunteer director of the children’s choir. At that time, we were preparing for a musical about the body of Christ (We are United by Pam Andrews, Jonathan Crumpton and Meredith Graham). Using the passage from I Corinthians 12, the musical worked its way through the various parts of the human body, detailing each one’s importance to the whole. While working with a wonderful group of children and parents, my heart was stirred concerning the body of Christ in our community. I realized that there must be at least a few churches in the area that don’t have the resources to develop a program like we had. I further believed that there are others that do have these programs but can’t accommodate everyone because of various reasons. A community choir was the solution that God put on my heart! For more information regarding plans for the choir and a little about myself, continue reading below. As you will see, this choir is all about ministry, not performance. Children will learn proper singing techniques and be given the opportunity to use their talents in large and small group settings, solos, etc., but the emphasis will be on ministry and using their talents to glorify God. Seeking to Serve Him, Donna Storrs
The children would benefit from ministry opportunities as well as learn Biblical truths embedded in every selection and production presented. In the eight years that God allowed me to minister as choir director, the choir has always presented selections that were fundamental and purposeful to teach such Biblical truths as “God is always with you, no matter when, no matter where” (24/7 by Janet McMahan Wilson), “Build your life on Jesus, the Solid Rock” (Solid Rock Café, by Pam Andrews), “Look for the good in your circumstances” (Jailhouse Rock by Celeste and David Clydesdale), and Hans Bronson by Kathie Hill also taught us how to use the colors of the Olympic rings to explain the message of Salvation, God’s perfect and free gift.
Parents and older children would be asked to help with some of the more involved events such as the musicals in areas of drama, sets and props, lighting and sound, and any social events planned for the choir. Volunteers are needed for the administrative areas required to run a program like this. Some of these include but are not limited to finances, publicity, secretarial, scheduling, and facility coordination.
Donna lives in Bethlehem Township with her husband, Craig and 3 children. She has had many years of private vocal training and choral experience. She has directed children’s choirs for the past 10 years at her church in Bethlehem. Prior to moving to Bethlehem 12 years ago, she assisted with children’s music at her previous church in New Jersey. Donna has experience in solo presentations, small musical groups including praise teams, duets and trios, and choral groups of varying sizes. Donna has a love for many different types of music including classical, gospel and contemporary Christian music. She seeks to provide a well-rounded repertoire so that children can learn about the history of Christian music and gain an appreciation for the foundation of the music we enjoy today.
